Women's Health Q & A

What are common women’s health services?

Women have unique reproductive health needs, and the team at Mannam Medical & Wellness offers a comprehensive range of health services for women of all ages, including:

Well-woman exams

Your well-woman exam is a critical part of preventive health care. You can check in on your overall and reproductive health with your provider and get the advice, testing, and treatment you need to improve and protect your health.

Preventive health screenings

The team offers a variety of preventive health screenings, including breast exams, pelvic exams, Pap smears, human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, and standard blood tests. These tests detect health problems before you experience symptoms, so you can start treatment and minimize disruption to your health.

Birth control advice

Mannam Medical & Wellness offers various contraceptive options, including intrauterine devices (IUDs), birth control implants, and birth control shots, and pills. Your provider reviews your medical history, health, and lifestyle to provide personalized advice on the best form of contraception to meet your needs.

STD testing

Every year, American physicians diagnose more than 20 million new cases of STDs. Many STDs don’t cause symptoms in their early stages, and testing is the best way to get a diagnosis and treatment before the disease damages your health or fertility.

How often do I need a Pap smear?

Women should have their first Pap smear around their 21st birthday or when they become sexually active, whichever comes first. Your provider gives your specific advice on how often you should have a Pap smear based on your risk of cervical cancer.

In general, women aged 21-65 should have a Pap smear every three years. Once you’re over the age of 30, you can opt for a combined Pap/HPV test every five years.

Why are annual well-woman appointments necessary?

Many women’s health issues like cervical cancer and STDs don’t cause symptoms in their early stages. However, when left untreated, these conditions worsen and damage your health and fertility.

The health screenings included in your annual well-woman exam help you provider diagnose disease and give you the treatment you need to protect your health.
